Pro-Bono Website Redesign for HALTER

Modernizing a 35-year legacy of equine therapy with a high-trust digital platform for families, volunteers, and donors.

The Challenge

HALTER (Healing And Learning Through Equine Relationships) has been a pillar of the Spartanburg community since 1987. However, for many long-standing nonprofits, the digital “front door” often fails to reflect the life-changing work happening on the ground. HALTER needed a website that could handle the logistical heavy lifting—volunteer recruitment, donation processing, and program information—while capturing the profound emotional bond between their riders and their horses.

The Solution

As the recipient of our 4th annual Arrowhead 501 Project, HALTER received a completely new website designed and developed from the ground up at no cost. We focused on an “empathy-first” user experience, using high-impact visuals to showcase the therapeutic power of their equine programs. The new site acts as a functional hub for the organization, making it easier than ever for families to find support and for the community to contribute to HALTER’s mission of healing.

Bridging the Gap Between Legacy and Technology

Every year, the Arrowhead’s 501 Project initiative allows our team to step back and use our skills for the ultimate ROI: community impact. For our 4th annual awardee, HALTER, the goal was to take a mission that has flourished since 1987 and give it a digital presence that will carry it through the next 30 years.

  • Emotional Storytelling: We moved away from text-heavy pages to a design that leads with the “why.” By highlighting the relationships between the children and the horses, the website immediately communicates the transformative nature of HALTER’s equine-assisted activities.
  • Streamlined Functionality: A working farm has enough to manage without a clunky website. We simplified the navigation so that donors can give in two clicks and new families can easily access the resources they need to get started.
  • A Community Hub: The new HALTERsc.org serves as a beacon for volunteers and supporters, ensuring that this 501(c)3 organization has the professional digital foundation it deserves to continue its vital work in the Upstate.

We couldn’t be more excited about the outcome of this collaboration. At Arrowhead, we believe that great design should be accessible to those changing lives, and HALTER is a perfect example of why we do what we do.
