Introduction

The last two years have been an incredible chapter for our team. When we first partnered with Power Up Spartanburg, an initiative dedicated to supporting minority- and women-owned businesses, we knew we were stepping into a great opportunity. Now that we have officially wrapped up our two-year mentorship, I want to share how this program works and the huge impact it has had on Arrowhead Design Group.

Guided by Local Experts

A cornerstone of the Power Up experience is its mentorship structure. I had the privilege of being paired with three respected local business leaders: Trey Thies of Thies Properties, Pontheolla Mack Abernathy of the Clevedale Inn, and Stefan Leonhardt, the Co-Owner of Our Town Collective.

Rather than just offering occasional advice, these mentors dove deep into our day-to-day operations. They challenged our strategic thinking, shared invaluable insights from their own entrepreneurial journeys, and provided the consistent encouragement we needed to refine our business model. Having a trusted sounding board of that caliber completely transformed how we approach our growth.

The Impact of “Access to Space”

Expanding a business requires physical room to grow, but transitioning into a new office comes with significant financial hurdles. This is where Power Up’s “Access to Space” initiative makes a practical difference for growing companies.

To help jumpstart this next phase of our journey, the program generously covered our office rent for several months. By removing that immediate overhead pressure, Power Up gave us the financial runway to focus entirely on building out our team, serving our clients, and setting down permanent roots in the community.

Paying It Forward as Subject Matter Experts

The ultimate goal of the program is to create a sustainable ecosystem where local businesses lift each other up. With our mentorship period complete, we are moving into an exciting new role. I am proud to share that Arrowhead has been awarded Subject Matter Expert status within the Power Up network.

In this new capacity, we are officially in-taking marketing jobs from other Power Up businesses. It is incredibly rewarding to take the lessons, strategies, and momentum we gained over the last two years and use them to help other Spartanburg entrepreneurs thrive.
